Engineering Undergraduate Internship Program

Los Alamos National Laboratory is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. The intern will have the opportunity to work closely with experienced researchers and gain hands-on experience in the field.

Responsibilities

Set up and Operate Molten Salt Experiments
Conduct experiments involving molten salts to support ongoing research
Assist with the handling, casting, and drying of salts as needed
Help design and assemble electrochemical cell for experiments
Set up the necessary equipment and infrastructure to enable electrochemical research
Collaborate with the research team to advance the understanding of electrochemical processes
Provide support and assistance as needed to ensure the success of the research projects

Required

Currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate program in any Engineering discipline. Examples of Engineering degrees in greatest demand include: Mechanical, Electrical, Nuclear, Materials, Aeronautic, Chemical, Civil and Environmental. Must be enrolled in at least 12 semester credit hours (or full-time equivalent). Entering freshmen must provide documentation indicating matriculation into a suitable undergraduate degree program
Must currently have and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.75 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent)
Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances
The application and required documents must be submitted by February 14, 2026
Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter
This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances
The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing
