Principal Consultant

They are seeking a Principal Consultant to lead their Life Cycle Assessment and Decarbonization Practice, providing expertise in sustainable solutions and advising clients on carbon management strategies.

Responsibilities
Expert knowledge and application of commercial LCA software, including SimaPro, openLCA, and GaBi
Understanding client technical needs and delivering sustainable, practical solutions that consider costs and benefits of carbon management and greenhouse gas strategies
Serving as a business development, project management, and technical leadership lead for life cycle assessment and carbon quantification projects related to regulatory and incentive programs
Maintaining marketplace visibility through regular client engagement, participation in professional organizations, and presentations at industry events
Acting as a senior technical consultant and strategist, providing leadership as a project manager, technical lead, regulatory subject matter expert, or senior QA/QC reviewer on climate-related projects
Developing ISO 14040/44-compliant LCA models and study reports
Guiding LCAs through external third-party critical review processes
Performing additional technical analyses, including techno-economic assessments, tangential climate and carbon-related project evaluations, sustainability program support, data management, methodologies development, and QA/QC
Communicating actionable insights to clients through reports, presentations, and workshops
Managing projects and staff, including technical oversight, risk management, mentoring, and professional development
Collaborating with staff across multiple office locations
Assisting with recruiting, onboarding, and training additional staff
Serving in a leadership role that reinforces company culture and values
Participating in professional development opportunities, including conferences, in-house seminars, webinars, and mentoring programs
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in environmental, mechanical, chemical engineering, or a related engineering discipline
Minimum of 8 years of professional experience, including project management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Expert knowledge and application of commercial LCA software, including SimaPro, openLCA, and GaBi

Strong data management and computational skills
Prior experience in LCA and carbon footprinting
Proven client relationship management, sales, and business development experience
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and high-level modeling tools
Ability to apply LCA results within relevant climate regulations to identify value creation opportunities
Knowledge of industry standards and frameworks, including the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, ISO 14067, SBTi, TCFD, and CDP
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Valid U.S. driver's license with a satisfactory driving record for business travel
Preferred
Advanced degree in engineering
Professional Engineer (P.E.) registration
CARB-accredited LCFS Lead Verifier or equivalent credential
Life Cycle Assessment Certified Professional (LCACP)
Demonstrated experience performing life cycle assessments and reporting, with knowledge of current tools, methodologies, and trends
Experience working with LCA verification agencies
Regional visibility through participation in professional associations or trade organizations
