Resident Relations and Communications Coordinator (DOH/NMVH #15615)
The New Mexico Department of Health is seeking a compassionate and communication-driven Resident Relations & Communications Coordinator to support the emotional, social, and informational needs of residents and their families at the New Mexico State Veterans' Home. This role involves building trusting relationships, improving resident experiences, and managing communication efforts to showcase the quality of life and care provided at the facility.

Responsibilities
Serve as a friendly, approachable resource for residents to voice concerns, ask questions, or seek assistance
Conduct routine check-ins with residents to assess satisfaction, mood, and social engagement
Assist with new resident orientation and help ease transitions for new admissions
Work closely with Social Services and Nursing to identify residents who may need extra attention, emotional support, or help connecting with programs
Monitor and support residents¿ psychosocial well-being (non-clinical), ensuring concerns are documented and followed up appropriately
Help residents participate in decision-making about their care, room environment, meals, and daily routines when possible
Be a primary point of contact for family members regarding non-medical updates, events, and emotional support
Assist with family meetings, phone/video calls, and outreach related to resident satisfaction and engagement
Maintain professional and compassionate communication with families, offering reassurance and information in a timely manner
Help educate families on facility routines, visitation guidelines, and services available
Partner with the Activities Department to encourage participation, identify interests, and develop programming tailored to resident needs
Assist in planning and promoting resident-centered events, celebrations, cultural observances, and life milestones
Celebrate resident birthdays, accomplishments, and life stories with dignity and respect
Create and post resident newsletters, spotlights, and bulletin board materials to highlight achievements and community involvement
Develop materials that positively reflect resident life and facility culture, including social media posts (with consent), newsletter articles, and website content
Help coordinate photo permissions and showcase resident-centered stories to celebrate community life
Support administration with family letters, facility updates, and communication during crises or sensitive situations
Ensure that all communications involving residents are respectful, person-centered, and privacy-compliant
Qualification
Required
High School diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of office administration or public relations experience
Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling two (2) years may substitute for the required experience
Employment is subject to criminal background check pursuant to New Mexico Caregivers Criminal Screening Act, (Sections 29-17-2 through 29-17-5 NMSA 1978 and 7.1.9.1 through 7.1.9.11 NMAC) and is conditional pending results
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico driver's license
Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment
Must possess and maintain a valid Safe Food Handling Certificate or receive within 1 week of date of hire
Successful completion of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) training
Must sign and observe confidentiality agreement
Must be able to read, write, speak, and comprehend the English language
