Project Director - Civil Engineering

They are seeking an accomplished Project Director with a strong background in urban civil engineering design and redevelopment, responsible for leading projects, enhancing design efficiency, and supporting employee development.

Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership – Collaborate with the Managing Partner to implement initiatives that advance the company’s growth, efficiency, and talent development
Project Management – Assume full responsibility for project delivery, including team coordination, client communication, contract negotiation, staffing oversight, schedule management, budgeting, billing, and construction administration
Marketing & Business Development – Support marketing outreach, pursue projects, specific business development opportunities, prepare proposals, and represent GordonDC at industry and community events
Technical Expertise – Oversee and contribute to design efforts involving site and master planning, zoning and entitlements, site feasibility studies, stormwater management, sustainability, and utility and infrastructure design, and expertise in navigating multi-phased projects through local and federal agency approval processes
Sustainability Focus – Incorporate sustainable site design practices where applicable to enhance environmental performance and long-term project value
Client Engagement – Maintain and deepen existing client relationships while actively identifying and securing new opportunities
Team Development – Mentor, coach, and support staff in their professional growth, fostering a collaborative, positive, and high-performance culture
Collaboration – Participate in monthly in-person Director Meetings and quarterly Leadership Workshops at GORDON US, LLC located in Chantilly, VA
Operational Management – Support financial forecasting, manage monthly invoicing, and oversee project financial reporting. Assist the Managing Partner in developing and enhancing office structures and procedures to optimize Team performance and operational efficiency
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
Minimum of 10 years of civil engineering experience with the last five (5) years focused on projects located within Washington, DC
Proven expertise in urban civil engineering design and planning, including site planning, stormwater management, utility infrastructure, and securing District Agency approvals
Professional Engineering (PE) license in the District of Columbia required; additional licensure in VA, MD, or other states is a plus
Self-motivated, adaptable, and able to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast paced environment
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated ability to lead a Team and manage client-facing responsibilities
Preferred
Proficiency in MS Office, Bluebeam, and AutoCAD highly preferred; familiarity with other design and modeling software is a plus
Experience with sustainable site design practices is preferred
