Responsibilities
Lead and litigate high-profile lawsuits in support of LGBTQ+ rights, in addition to defending LGBTQ+ allies on the frontlines
Develop litigation strategy, legal arguments, and witness testimony
Draft and respond to written discovery, motions, and legal memoranda
Represent and argue on behalf of clients in court
Perform advanced legal research on novel issues of law
Conduct fact and expert discovery, including taking and defending depositions
Manage cases efficiently while maintaining high-quality work product
Report directly to the Legal Director
Interview and interact with media regarding cases and issues
Advise allied attorneys on legal issues within areas of competence
Network and develop relationships with current or potential allied attorneys and groups throughout the country
Work with the Development team on speaking engagements and other events
You may be asked to give speaking presentations to university or law students, teachers’ unions, LGBTQ+ support and advocacy groups, professional organizations, or other audiences
Reports to the Legal Director
Qualification
Required
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and active bar membership in at least one U.S. state
Prior civil litigation experience required
Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
Commitment to the protection and advocacy of marginalized communities, particularly LGBTQ individuals
Ability to manage multiple matters and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Preferred
Two (2) or more years of civil litigation experience
Experience handling defamation litigation
Courtroom and deposition experience
Significant experience with social media and/or content creation
Strong attention to detail and sound professional judgment
