ACCOUNTING ASSISTANT
Gastineau Human Services Corp. is seeking an Accounting Assistant for Grants, Contracts, and Fundraising to support their funding opportunities and grant application processes. Responsibilities
Identifies and applies for funding opportunities that support the mission, goals, and current strategic plan of Gastineau Human Services
Researches state, federal, and private grant and contract announcements and the criteria to qualify for each
Discusses potential funding resources with the GHS leadership team and confirms that the agency can sustain all required program, administrative, and personnel commitments before moving forward with applications
Compiles necessary information for the application process through collaboration with coworkers, community partners, database research, and other fact-finding actions and meetings
Drafts and submits grant and contract applications on time and within application parameters
Coordinates ongoing monitoring and evaluation of all grant and contract-funded programs and projects
Ensures timely completion of all required reporting, data collection, and deliverables for each grant and contract, including financial reporting
Works with GHS program coordinators to ensure that employees submit all required receipts and documentation for Alaska Mental Health Trust mini grants, State of Alaska Individual Service Agreements, and other funding resources available for GHS residents and program participants
Maintains current, accurate files for all documentation connected to programs funded by grants and contracts
Acts as subject matter expert and shares the status and impact of grants and contracts for department meetings and agency updates as requested
Leads fundraising efforts for the agency
Maintains the GHS donor management system and ensures its data is accurate and reliable
Plans events and organizes fundraising opportunities for the agency with input and direction from the Finance Manager and Director of Finance and Administration
Works with key administrative staff to plan and organize marketing messages and channels for donor engagement
Communicates directly with current and potential donors on a regular basis
Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Thorough understanding of local, state, and federal funding sources and the ability to locate potential new sources for funding
Thorough understanding of grant funding policies and procedures and applicable local, state, and federal regulations
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Thorough understanding of effective grant writing techniques and grading criteria
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software
Proven ability to take initiative and responsibility
Extremely organized and meticulous with details
Excellent project management skills and ability to prioritize work and resources
Strong time management skills and ability to meet simultaneous deadlines for multiple tasks
Ability to interpret financial data and prepare budgets and financial grant reports
Ability to be discreet with sensitive information needed for grants and contracts, such as agency finances, employee salaries, and upcoming projects
An associate's degree in a field related to the mission of GHS is required
Must pass the Department of Corrections and Department of Health background checks or qualify for a variance
Must pass drug test upon hire
Must have a current, valid State of Alaska driver's license or ID and be insurable by GHS's auto insurance
Preferred
At least three years of grant writing experience is highly preferred. Experience may substitute for the education requirement
Experience using a donor management system and/or leading fundraising efforts for an organization is highly preferred
