General Engineering Tech I/II
The Texas Department of Transportation is seeking motivated and skilled General Engineering Techs to join their maintenance team. In this role, you will assist engineers and maintenance staff with inspections, troubleshooting, project support, and hands-on technical tasks that keep the state's roadways and operations running safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities
Identifies, analyzes, and implements solutions for complex maintenance problems
Inspects construction and routine and non-routine contract maintenance methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications
May train other employees
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned
Inspects complex maintenance and construction-related work to include hot mix overlay to ensure compliance with safety, laws and regulations, contract specifications and departmental procedures
Prepares plans, specifications, and estimate (PS&E) using automated programs; reviews plans, enters data and updates, stores and maintains PS&E documents and files
Qualification
Required
High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies
General Engineering Tech I: 4 years in transportation engineering support, roadway maintenance, construction inspection, or related work experience. (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent)
General Engineering Tech II: 6 years in transportation engineering support, roadway maintenance, construction inspection, or related work experience. (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent)
Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle
Applicable inspection methods, procedures and techniques
Materials used in highway/bridge construction and maintenance
Maintenance concepts, methods, policies and requirements
Using computers, applicable programs, applications, and systems
Maintaining a safe and effective working relationship with others
Light work: Lift up to 20 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs
Standing-prolonged periods of time
Walking-moving on foot to accomplish tasks: long distance/from one work site to another
Talking-expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken words
Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
This job has been identified as physically demanding and will require a pre-employment physical
Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions. This is a Safety Impact position and will be subject to random drug testing
Required to work during emergency situations after hours, on weekends or holidays
Required to work hours other than 8 to 5
Required to work under exposure to inclement weather conditions
Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) provided by employer and comply with all safety requirements
Must attend work regularly and observe approved work hours
