Environmental Scientist III - Shoreline & Waterway

The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control is focused on maintaining and improving Delaware’s beaches, shorelines, and waterways. The incumbent will coordinate communication between programs, manage and review permit applications, ensure permit compliance, and oversee project mapping and equipment compliance, requiring proficiency in GIS for mapping and data analysis.

Responsibilities

Conducts field studies or inspections and evaluations for compliance with permit and regulatory requirements; observes, collects, analyzes, reviews and interprets data from standard field studies, compliance inspections, various regulatory submissions or literature and makes recommendations
Performs statistical analysis of data
Conducts technical reviews and makes recommendations on permit applications or other various regulatory submissions to ensure compliance with regulations
Prepares permits, technical reports and/or enforcement case documents
Responds to technical/regulatory inquiries from other state, local and federal agencies as well as public and private organizations or individuals

Required

Possession of a Bachelors degree or higher in Life, Physical, or Applied Science or related field
Six months experience in environmental or natural resources project management which includes planning, developing, implementing, managing and evaluating environmental or natural resources projects to ensure objectives are met
Two years' experience in analyzing and evaluating scientific data
Two years' experience in interpreting environmental laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures
Six months experience in using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire and report on data
Six months experience in technical report writing
6 months experience in using ArcGIS software
Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States
As a condition of hire you must possess a valid driver's license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving)
