Communications Consultant IV, Internal Communications
Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Responsibilities
Works collaboratively within the Office of Marketing and Communications and across KPSOM to develop and execute internal communications strategies that foster engagement and alignment among faculty, staff, and students
Leads planning, coordination, and execution of internal communications for major institutional events, including White Coat Ceremony, Commencement, Match Day, and faculty/staff gatherings; develops messaging and content that enhances participation and reinforces organizational culture
Manages and oversees production of KPSOMs internal newsletters and email broadcasts; ensures timely delivery, editorial quality, and alignment with brand and communication standards; monitors engagement metrics and recommends improvements
Researches, writes, and edits news stories and related content for internal and external audiences, including newsletters, the KPSOM website, and other institutional channels; ensures accuracy, clarity, and consistency with editorial guidelines
Partners with the Deans Office and other departments to coordinate written and visual elements for major internal presentations; provides strategic input to ensure messaging supports leadership priorities and institutional goals
Provides guidance and oversight on the volume, timing, and prioritization of school-wide communications, including broadly distributed emails; advises interested parties on best practices to maximize engagement and minimize message fatigue
Practices self-development and promotes learning in others by proactively sharing expertise, resources, and feedback; builds relationships across departments; adapts to competing demands and evolving priorities; and supports team collaboration
Completes work assignments and supports projects within the department and across KPSOM by applying subject matter expertise; contributes to work plans that meet marketing and communications priorities; ensures adherence to KP policies and procedures; and identifies and solves complex problems
Ensures successful implementation of communication efforts by consulting with interested parties on change management strategies; assesses effectiveness of communications and makes modifications as necessary; monitors key performance indicators and overall impact
Develops communications by writing, editing, and producing complex content for KPSOM programs and projects; proofreads and coordinates production of materials; ensures placement and distribution across internal and external channels; and maintains consistency with brand and editorial guidelines
Manages projects or project components by coordinating stakeholder engagement; recommends or assigns team resources based on project needs; consults in the development and management of project plans; and coordinates schedules and resource forecasts to meet strategic priorities
Conducts communication activities by providing support to internal stakeholders; manages and maintains vendor relationships; reinforces KPSOMs role within Kaiser Permanente; ensures communications align with strategic goals and standards; and ensures activities and performance metrics are documented and tracked
Qualification
Required
Minimum five (5) years experience in communications, writing, marketing, or a directly related field
Minimum three (3) years experience in internal communications, or organizational communications
Minimum one (1) year experience in a leadership role with or without direct reports
Bachelors degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Humanities, Public Relations, Business, Social Science, or related field or four (4) years of experience in a directly related field
High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required
Preferred
Two (2) years experience developing and managing internal communication strategies for a complex organization, preferably in higher education or healthcare
One (1) year experience producing newsletters and email campaigns, including editorial planning and analytics
One (1) year experience supporting major institutional events through messaging and content development
Three (3) years project management experience
Two (2) years experience working in a matrixed or cross-functional organization
Three (3) years professional experience in the development of digital or multi-media content
One (1) year experience in higher education, medical education, or healthcare communications
Two (2) years experience in change management or institutional communications support
Master degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Humanities, Business, Social Science, or related field
