Director, Finance (Controller)

Responsibilities
Directs all aspects of financial operations, accounting, and compliance with regulations, internal policies and best practices. Manage and mentor finance staff, fostering professional development and a culture of accountability. Ensure team provides high level of customer service to other NCSBN departments
Coordinates, analyzes, and prepares financial reports, variance analysis, annual budget reports, and forecasts for senior leadership and the Board of Directors. Leads the preparation and submission of annual tax returns and other required regulatory reports for NCSBN
Implements and ensures optimal utilization of ERP, payment, and budgeting systems. Drives continuous process improvements through automation and process enhancements, including journal entries, reconciliation, and month-end close processes
Assist CFO with Treasury management, cash flow forecasting, budget development and management. Lead finance team projects and assist CFO with board reporting, ad hoc reporting, and costing projects
Develops and enforces internal controls, implements, and maintains departmental policies and procedures, and oversees the general ledger, AP, and AR. Ensure compliance with financial regulations and standards
Collaborates with other departments to support business initiatives and optimize financial performance
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field required
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required
Proficiency in all aspects of Not-For-Profit organization accounting, including GAAP, and all pertinent rules and regulations for 501 (c) (3) organizations
Deep systems and reporting experience and understanding of accounting, finance, budgeting, and cost control
Experience developing reports and building forecasting and financial models to support data-driven decision making, leveraging advanced Excel tools for robust analysis
Skilled in developing, managing, and monitoring complex budgets
Ability to align financial management with organizational goals and long-term planning
Ability to make sound financial decisions under pressure and with incomplete information
Minimum of ten years of experience in accounting or finance including at least five years of related leadership experience required
