Responsibilities
Provides excellent customer service for patients, family members and all visitors
Processes demographic and insurance information during registration
Anticipates patient needs and seeks opportunities to meet those needs under the supervision of the ED RN
Takes the patient’s vital signs, oxygen saturations, and provides comfort measures such as blankets/ice packs
Sends specimens to lab, answers a patient’s call light, and assists patients to the bathroom
Performs order entries and other self-directed clerical/telephone duties
Knowledgeable of ED equipment, performing STAT EKG’s and applying heart monitors
Complies with organizational safety and infection control regulations, HIPAA Policies and Procedures, and is knowledgeable of ED Policies and Procedures
Communicates continually with the ED physician, ED RN, ancillary departments, the patient and family members
Actively participates in quality and performance improvement through data collections, aggregation and analysis of relevant key indicators of quality
Develops and implements action plans to include the monitoring of the effectiveness of improvements
Qualification
Required
Completion of high school or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Customer service skills
Preferred
Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
Current CNA or EMT preferred or willingness to become certified within set time frame
