Responsibilities

Lead performance tuning and optimization across MySQL and AWS Aurora clusters
Analyze slow queries, perform EXPLAIN / EXPLAIN ANALYZE reviews, and optimize indexing, schema design, and SQL structure
Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve performance bottlenecks (locking, contention, buffer tuning, workload analysis, parameter adjustments)
Manage and optimize production AWS Aurora environments: instance sizing, replication, failover, backups, parameter groups, autoscaling
Own and execute Aurora MySQL engine upgrades, including blue/green deployments
Design and implement archiving and purging strategies to manage data growth while preserving data integrity
Develop monitoring, alerting, and capacity planning processes using CloudWatch and related tooling
Collaborate with engineering teams to guide best practices for DB design, performance, scaling, and stability
Ensure robust backup/restore, disaster recovery frameworks, and operational readiness
Document operational procedures and communicate clearly with stakeholders

Required

8+ years as a MySQL DBA, with expert-level skills in performance tuning
Strong expertise with AWS Aurora MySQL in production
Advanced knowledge of indexing strategies, schema optimization, EXPLAIN plans
Strong understanding of MySQL internals: InnoDB, buffer pool, locking mechanisms, replication
Experience with upgrades, parameter tuning, blue/green deployments
Strong knowledge of backups, restores, failover, DR
Experience building archiving / purging solutions
Sharp analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication skills
