Responsibilities

Research new technologies and software platforms related to industrial automation
Perform literature reviews, hands-on prototyping, experimentation, demonstration, and documentation (typically in internal reports, but occasionally in journals)
Collaborate with external vendors, research partners, and standards development organizations
Identify new intellectual property

Required

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field

Experience creating detailed technical documentation
Understanding of operating systems (real-time and POSIX-based), drivers, and communication stacks
Understanding of Ethernet- and serial-based communications, as well as OSI layer 2 and above communications protocols
Enjoy solving diverse engineering problems that require diverse expertise
Understanding of research processes and initiative to seek answers independently

Preferred

Advanced degree (Master's or above) in Computer Science or Computer Engineering
Advanced degree (Master's or above) in Information Technology or an AI-related field
Advanced degree (Master's or above) in Mechanical, Electrical, or Robotics Engineering
Advanced degree (Master's or above) in Physics, Applied Physics, or Engineering Physics
Advanced degree (Master's or above) in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics
8+ years of experience in a research or technology development environment
Expert in one or more programming languages, including proficiency with C/C++, with deep understanding of POSIX operating systems
Excellent written and spoken technical English
Project management skills
Experience with software related to functional safety (according to IEC 61508)
Experience as an architect of real-time communications software stacks for RTOS or POSIX systems
Experience as a creator of containerized AI/ML workloads
Hands-on experience with robotics in a laboratory setting or in the field
