Materials Computational Scientist Intern
Kairos Power is a new nuclear energy technology and engineering company focused on transitioning to clean energy. They are seeking a highly motivated Intern to assist in the development and application of numerical material models to support engineering programs and test systems.

Responsibilities
Support the calibration, verification and validation (V&V) and uncertainty quantification (UQ) efforts associated with the development and deployment of the company’s structural material models
Participate to the deployment of the company’s material data management systems
Collaborate with the Materials team on the definition of test matrices aimed at improving overall goodness of fit and / or reducing modeling uncertainty
Publish engineering reports documenting
Maintain knowledge of and assess compliance with applicable codes and standards
Other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Currently pursuing M.S. or PhD degree in Applied Mathematics, Materials Science, Mechanical/Nuclear Engineering, or equivalent
Experience in one or more of the following areas: UQ, PDE-constrained and risk-averse optimization, optimization under uncertainty, verification and validation, inverse problems, model calibration, mesh generation and machine learning
Experience developing scientific codes and softwares using C++, Fortran, python or similar programming language
Experience in handling and analyzing large datasets
Knowledge of spatial and time discretization techniques for partial differential equation (PDE) systems
Working knowledge of data management programming languages (e.g. SQL)
Excellent verbal, written communication/presentation, and interpersonal skills
Ability to work with highly collaborative team
Ability to solve problems quickly and efficiently
Prioritizes and ensures safety of one self and others
Ability to proactively collect, manage and transfer knowledge
Ability to seek different and novel ways to create efficiencies when working on problems, challenges and issues
Preferred
Experience/knowledge in Computational Materials Science or Mechanics
