Controller and Human Resources Manager

They are seeking a Controller and Human Resources Manager to oversee and improve the company's Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, and administrative functions, ensuring accurate financial reporting and effective HR processes.

Construction

Responsibilities

Own and continuously improve monthly close, general ledger, and accrual accounting processes
Manage and refine accounts receivable, billing, collections, and customer follow-up
Manage accounts payable, vendor payments, and expense reimbursements
Own payroll processing and payroll-related reporting
Own and enhance job cost accounting, WIP, and percent-complete reporting
Prepare and deliver clear, accurate internal financial statements and management reports
Lead budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis (month-over-month and budget vs. actual)
Own and refine cash flow forecasting, scenario planning, and treasury management
Manage day-to-day banking relationships and treasury activities
Improve the quality, timeliness, and usefulness of financial reporting beyond standard system-generated reports
Oversee and coordinate with external CPA firms for federal and state income tax preparation
Oversee sales tax preparation and compliance
Manage corporate insurance programs, renewals, and claims coordination
Manage bonding relationships and bonding requirements
Coordinate with outside legal counsel as needed (process ownership, not contract drafting)
Assume ownership of established HR processes and continuously improve consistency, documentation, and execution
Own recruiting coordination and hiring process administration
Manage employee onboarding and offboarding
Administer employee benefits and benefits communications
Own payroll and HRIS system administration
Maintain employee files, records, and HR compliance
Own and refine performance management processes, including reviews, bonuses, and merit increases
Track training, certifications, and compliance requirements
Develop, document, and enforce HR policies and procedures as needed
Support and guide managers on discipline and terminations, including documentation and compliance
Participate in termination conversations as needed and execute terminations with manager approval
Ensure the office operates smoothly and professionally
Manage office supplies, vendors, repairs, and improvements
Serve as the internal point person for IT and cybersecurity
Manage and oversee the managed service provider (MSP), including access control and security practices
Fully own the Finance & Administration seat on the EOS Accountability Chart
Own Finance & Admin-related Rocks and Scorecard metrics
Step into SWFP’s existing EOS rhythm and elevate execution within that framework
Provide leadership with timely, accurate, and actionable financial and people data
Reduce surprises, rework, and noise related to finance and HR matters
Build scalable systems and processes that support company growth
Clean, timely, and predictable monthly closes
High confidence in financial statements with minimal surprises
Improved cash flow visibility and forward-looking forecasting
Clearer, more actionable job cost reporting and margin analysis
Stronger budget discipline with meaningful variance explanations
Consistent, compliant, and professional HR processes
Reduced leadership time spent on finance and people administration
A Finance & Administration function that is stable, disciplined, and scalable

Required

7–10 years of progressive experience across Accounting and Human Resources, with direct ownership of execution
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or Human Resources; MBA or Master's degree is a plus but not required
Strong working knowledge of accrual accounting, job cost accounting, cash flow management, and financial reporting
Demonstrated experience owning monthly close, financial statements, budgeting, and forecasting
Hands-on experience administering payroll, benefits, and HR compliance processes
Experience stepping into an established finance or HR function and improving it without unnecessary disruption
Comfortable operating in a growing, entrepreneurial environment with limited support staff

Preferred

CPA is a nice-to-have but not required
Experience in construction, manufacturing, or water/wastewater-related industries is strongly preferred
