Responsibilities
Provides quality and/or technical support to engineers on a variety of quality and technical tasks
Gathers, maintains, formats, compiles, and manipulates technical data, such as laboratory or material test results and proposed engineering design changes as well as qualitative and quantitative data to assure that design is effectively translated to respective process planning artifacts in support of manufacturing builds assuring quality products are effectively tested, inspected and delivered to our customers
Produces various engineering documentation, reports, drawings (flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics)
Performs detailed mathematical calculations, where appropriate, using established formulas: preliminary analyses of data where guidelines are provided in such areas as trajectory adequacy, model dimensional consistency: and quantitative judgments concerning technical data
Process Improvement: Update tooling programs and processes to improve efficiency and productivity
New Product Development: Develop all programs and processes for new products, working closely with the Engineering Department
Mastercam Software Maintenance: Maintain Mastercam software, installing all new updates and patches, and set up network folders for storage of machine programs
Shop Operations: Assist with daily operation of the shop, including assisting VSS with daily tasks and working with other machine shop personnel to ensure smooth workflow
Training and Development: Assist in the development of training methods for new and existing shop personnel
Tooling and Fixturing: Design tooling and fixturing to accurately locate and aid in the manufacturing of products
Machine Maintenance: Work with machine tool manufacturers to gain knowledge on repairs, TCP, and Calibration, to help reduce machine downtime
Scheduling: Schedule repairs and annual calibration of machines
Programming: Program 3-axis, 4-axis, and 5-axis machining centers using Mastercam to produce parts for composites
Training: Train machine operators to set up and operate machining centers, read prints, and inspect parts
Collaboration: Interact directly with the Engineering Department on new product development and interface with various departments for design, assembly, and testing of products
Quoting and Cost Estimating: Assist with quoting and cost estimating new work
Programmer/Machinist Functions: Perform all programmer/machinist functions, including: Programming and machining parts to specifications, Troubleshooting and resolving machining issues, Maintaining accurate records and documentation
Qualification
Required
10+ years of experience in a machine shop environment, preferably with composite manufacturing
High school diploma or GED
Proficiency in Mastercam software
Strong knowledge of CNC machining and programming, including experience with 3-axis, 4-axis, and 5-axis machining centers
Experience with machine tool repairs, TCP, and Calibration
Certification in CNC programming or machining (e.g., CNC Programming Certification, Machining Certification)
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively
Strong collaboration and teamwork skills
Ability to work in a machine shop environment, with potential exposure to noise, dust, and other manufacturing hazards
Preferred
BS Degree in a related field (e.g., mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering) preferred
Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 2 years work experience or equivalent experience
