The New York State Unified Court System is seeking a Director in the Appellate Division, Fourth Department, Mental Hygiene Legal Service. The Director oversees all aspects of the work of the Mental Hygiene Legal Service, including policy implementation and staff management.

Responsibilities

The establishment and implementation of policies and office procedures
Screening and hiring professional staff, evaluating their work, and recommending promotions
Determining work priorities and assigning staff among the four branch offices (Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse and Utica)
Formulating the initial budget request for inclusion in the Unified Court budget
Represents the Service at legislative hearings and meetings with the Attorney General, public interest groups, and organizations representing patients
Research and analyze complex legal questions and issues
Review briefs prepared for court proceedings
Analyze legislation and opinions for impact on the Service or its clients

Required

Admission to the New York State Bar
Seven (7) years of social casework, legal, or administrative experience
An equivalent combination of education and experience
