Senior Cost Accountant
Survival Systems Staffing is a company focused on supporting critical defense programs, and they are seeking a Senior Cost Accountant to oversee financial and cost accounting operations for their manufacturing facility. This role involves managing job costing, inventory valuation, cost analysis, and financial reporting while ensuring compliance with government contract requirements and DCAA standards.

Responsibilities
Develop and maintain comprehensive job costing system for all manufacturing orders
Track and analyze direct materials, direct labor, and manufacturing overhead costs
Perform variance analysis between standard and actual costs; investigate and resolve discrepancies
Calculate and maintain accurate burden rates for labor and overhead allocation
Conduct profitability analysis by job, customer, and product line
Provide cost estimates and pricing support for new quote opportunities
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports
Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger operations
Oversee month-end and year-end close processes
Coordinate annual audits and tax filings
Develop and monitor annual budgets and forecasts
Analyze cash flow and manage working capital
Serve as primary administrator and super-user for ERP/MRP system
Configure and maintain system settings for costing, inventory, and financial modules
Train staff on system functionality and best practices
Develop custom reports and analytics from ERP data
Lead system upgrades, implementations, and process improvements
Maintain accurate inventory valuation and reconciliation
Oversee cycle counting and physical inventory processes
Analyze inventory turns, obsolescence, and excess stock
Implement controls to ensure accurate material transactions in ERP system
Ensure compliance with DCAA (Defense Contract Audit Agency) requirements
Maintain adequate system of internal controls and documentation
Support government contract audits and provide required documentation
Ensure compliance with FAR (Federal Acquisition Regulations) cost accounting standards
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
Minimum 5 years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment
Hands-on experience with ERP or MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Epicor, JobBOSS, Sage, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar)
Strong understanding of job costing, inventory accounting, and manufacturing cost flows
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced formulas, pivot tables, data analysis)
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities
Preferred
CPA, CMA, or working toward professional certification
Experience in aerospace or defense manufacturing
Knowledge of DCAA compliance and government contract accounting
Familiarity with AS9100 or ISO 9001 quality management systems
Experience with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives
SQL or database query experience for custom reporting
Previous experience implementing or upgrading ERP/MRP systems
