Balance of Plant Mechanical Engineer

Pantex Plant is seeking a Balance of Plant Mechanical Engineer to serve as a System Engineer/Technical Authority for an assigned system. The candidate will become a Subject Matter Expert and will be responsible for troubleshooting, providing solutions, and ensuring effective technical cooperation with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Become a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in a specific area or topic
Provide guidance and strategy to help fill knowledge gaps on projects or within a company regarding the assigned system as needed
React to issues as they arise, troubleshoot, provide solutions, and document all field changes to their system
Manage the assigned system in order to minimize and/or prevent down time and unwanted problems
Serve as the liaison with representatives ranging from vendors, contractors, Department of Energy (DOE) and other Pantex departments as required

Required

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an Accreditation Commission (EAC) or Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited program in the United States or designated equivalents from Canada or Mexico, the Washington Accord, or the list of substantially equivalent as documented by ABET with a minimum 3.0/4.0 cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA)
OR a Master's degree in a mechanical engineering discipline with a minimum 3.3/4.0 cumulative GPA
OR a PhD in a mechanical engineering discipline with a minimum 3.5/4.0 cumulative GPA
There is a minimum GPA requirement up to 4 years post-graduation at time of offer and confirmed by transcript
Beyond four years from graduation, engineering experience will supersede GPA as a requirement for hire
In addition to the above requirements, the applicant must also meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related science, 2 years of job-related and at least 1 year of nuclear experience, or a DOE O 426.2A alternative). DOE O 426.2A experience requirements can be satisfied following employment
Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status
The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required
Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). If HRP is required, candidate must complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph, pursuant to 10CFR 709

Preferred

Use and application of technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques
Understanding of Conduct of Engineering, Conduct of Operations, and Conduct of Maintenance for facilities operating within a nuclear regulated environment
Ability to evaluate and provide feedback on new and proposed revisions to technical operating procedures, design drawings and requirements, and facility systems, structures, and components
Ability to make informed decisions and support those decisions to peers and senior management
