Litigation Associate Attorney

Vogelzang Law, P.C. is a mid-sized Plaintiff’s law firm in downtown Chicago seeking an experienced Litigation Attorney to manage all aspects of litigation. The role involves pre-trial investigations, drafting legal documents, conducting trials, and maintaining communication with clients throughout the litigation process.

Responsibilities

Communicate with the client and keep them informed throughout the handling of the litigation, meet clients face-to-face and over Zoom
Research relevant case law and review corporate documents
Delegate tasks as necessary to ensure proper management of the case
Perform lead and assist duties in accordance with the case assignments
Negotiate settlements
Prepare and draft legal documents including case specific discovery, motions, responses to motions
Conduct all phases of trial as second chair
Present witnesses for depositions
Correspond with all defense & co-counsel
Record settlements and all other relevant case information in Salesforce
Manage all aspects of a case, including drafting complex wrongful death pleadings and motions, court appearances and handling depositions

Required

Minimum of 1 – 3 years of experience at a Plaintiff's asbestos firm
Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
Licensed in the State of Illinois
Prior experience in personal injury is required
Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Odyssey E-Filing and/or File & Serve Illinois required
Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
Comfortable using, and learning how to use, legal technology and databases
Proven ability to work well with others and to work independently with minimal supervision
Strong knowledge of litigation processes, Illinois and other court rules and procedures
Strong critical thinking skills to process complex tasks and analyze effects on case deadlines
Excellent editing and proofreading skills
Ability to work under pressure to meet strict deadlines and effectively prioritize multiple tasks while managing individual workload
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written), professional demeanor and presentation
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of the organization and collaborate well in a team
High attention to detail, outstanding organizational skills, and the ability to manage time effectively

Preferred

Past experience with or ability to bring in business is a plus, with sharing of referral fees for any cases brought in
Experience with Salesforce preferred but not required
