Responsibilities
Assist with mechanical engineering design and redesign or review of plumbing, piping, fire protection systems and heating and ventilating systems for new and rehabilitation construction projects
Prepare mechanical drawings and details, specifications, estimates, and/or studies for design projects under the direction of licensed staff
Coordinate design drawings and related specifications, construction costs estimates, etc., with the other disciplines
Assist in scheduling assigned projects according to workload, priorities, and design schedules
Assist in the review of reports, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates prepared by design consultants
Assist with the supervision of consultant design work
Develop and maintain project documentation, including records of meetings, correspondence, and progress
Collaborate with senior designers, project managers, and other stakeholders to ensure project goals are met
Review shop drawings, respond to contractor Requests for Information, create and/or review Information Bulletins, and provide similar construction administration and observation during the project’s construction
Assist with supervision of junior staff

Qualification
Required
Proof of passing the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE) AND a qualifying bachelor's degree or higher as listed below; OR proof of passing the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE) AND one year of full-time qualifying engineering experience as listed below
Qualifying degrees: Aerospace Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Architectural Engineering Technology, Building Engineering, Construction Engineering, Construction Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering Management, Construction Engineering Management Technology, Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Nuclear Engineering, Nuclear Engineering Technology, or Engineering Science with a recognized concentration in any of the above listed engineering degrees
Qualifying experience: One year of full-time experience in mechanical engineering
This title includes a traineeship opportunity, and applicants must meet one of the following: A bachelor's degree or higher in engineering or engineering technology (listed above)
OR Proof of passing the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE) AND one year of full-time engineering experience (listed above)
OR Current New York State employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service in a position allocated to a Grade 18 or above and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law
