NEOGOV is seeking a Seasonal Parks Maintenance Operator for the Town of Plainfield. The role involves performing various maintenance tasks in the town's parks and trails, including mowing, cleaning, and equipment operation.

Responsibilities

Maintains the Town’s parks and trails by mowing grass, weed eating, and trimming trees and bushes, as needed
Maintains all sports fields, e.g. baseball, football, and soccer, by dressing, striping and marking repair of damages to the turf
Cleans restrooms, shelters, gazebos, and other buildings, as assigned
Removes snow and applies salt in the parks, on trails and at the facilities, as assigned
Performs routine playground inspection in all the parks to note and repair and/or replace any non-compliant or damaged playground equipment
Performs routine daily inspection and preventative maintenance on all Parks and Recreation-owned equipment and reports needed repairs to the Parks and Recreation Department Supervisor
Reports issues relating to repairs, replacements, and maintenance-related activities
Responds to complaints regarding damaged property in the parks and reports findings to the Parks and Recreation Department Supervisor
Operates trucks and utility trailers of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling, and unloading of various equipment, mulch, brick dust, gravel and sand
Meets with and/or coordinates with any outside volunteer groups doing work in the parks
Attends meetings, as assigned

Required

Must be at least 18 years of age
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Previous experience working in a maintenance job performing semi-skilled to skilled maintenance work is required
The ability to make sound and rational decisions including exercising independent judgment, within specified parameters is required
The ability to use and learn several types of technology to include: irrigation systems, and scheduling software for fields and facilities is required
The ability to operate motorized vehicles and equipment to include: pick-up truck, utility truck, saws, pumps, tractors, riding and walking lawn mowers, weed eaters, common hand and power tools, shovels, wrenches, detection devices, ditch witch, snow removal equipment, salting equipment, and mobile radio is required
The ability to enforce rules and follow all established protocols and guidelines is required
The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public is required
The ability to remain current with all required licenses, certifications and in-service requirements is required
The ability to operate a computer, printer, copy machine, scanner, fax machine, and other office equipment is required
The ability to speak, read and write in English is required

Preferred

Previous supervisory experience is desired
Computer software skills desired include: Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Rec Trac
A working knowledge of landscaping and annual and perennial flowers and trees that are in the parks is desired
Certified Playground Safety Inspector license is desired
A chemical application license for turf maintenance is desired
First Aid, AED, and CPR certifications are desired
Spanish is desired
A valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is desired
