Director of Finance

The American Culinary Federation is seeking a Director of Finance to serve as the senior financial and HR leader. This role is responsible for overseeing financial strategy, human resources, and compliance functions to ensure the organization's financial health and support strategic objectives.

Responsibilities

Direct and oversee the financial strategy, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission and strategic goals. Manage a $5.5M budget and ensure the adequacy and soundness of financial structures
Administer the human resources functions, including payroll, benefits administration, and onboarding of new employees. Oversee the management of the organization's 401k plan, health insurance, and other benefit programs
Contribute to the development and execution of the ACF’s strategic plan. Provide financial insights and human resources expertise to support organizational objectives
Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, ensuring accuracy and timeliness. Facilitate the annual budget process in collaboration with department directors and present findings to the Executive Director and Board of Directors
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws, as well as tax regulations. Oversee audits from external agencies and manage relationships with auditors and legal advisors
Monitor investment accounts and manage the organization’s restricted accounts. Serve as the staff liaison to the Finance & Investment Task Force, which oversees the organization’s investments and scholarship funds
Review all contracts from a risk management and financial perspective. Manage relationships with banking partners, insurance providers, and other key vendors
Supervise and develop a team of two staff accountants, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellence in financial and HR operations
Act as a key liaison between the financial and human resources functions and other departments within ACF

Required

Minimum of fifteen years of experience in financial management and accounting, with a strong background in nonprofit financial management
Extensive experience in human resources management, including benefits administration, payroll, and compliance
Proven ability to manage complex financial structures and budgets, with experience in strategic financial planning and analysis
Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field is required
Strategic thinker with strong analytical skills
Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders
Proactive, resourceful, and able to make sound decisions independently
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
Collaborative leader with the ability to inspire and motivate teams
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with experience in financial software and HR systems
Strong understanding of nonprofit governance and administration

Preferred

MBA and/or CPA is highly desired
