Court Assistant

The N.C. Department of Information Technology is part of the Judicial Branch, seeking a qualified candidate for the Court Assistant position. This role involves providing direct customer service, supporting judges, and performing various administrative duties within the Judicial District.

Responsibilities

Screen callers and visitors, answer inquiries, secure and give information
Screen and route mail according to contents of communication including email
Schedule appointments and meetings and set up conference calls and/or video conference as needed
Make travel arrangements and maintain administrative records for the office
Copy, file, and retrieve materials and perform periodic follow-up activities
Perform legal research and writing
Compose and prepare materials including correspondence, reports, and legal documents
Monitor and manage legal documents and cases via Enterprise Justice
Act as a liaison to the public, attorneys, and other government agencies
Take minutes of committee meetings and perform other general administrative responsibilities
Order and distribute office supplies
May prepare and distribute calendar and answer questions regarding status of cases

Required

Graduation from high school and two (2) years of experience as a legal secretary or paralegal; or an Associate degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Clean criminal background is required

Preferred

Management prefers an Associate degree in a related field and graduation from a Paralegal Certificate program, in addition to two years of experience as a legal secretary or paralegal working in a courthouse or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Knowledge of court procedures, legal terminology, and Enterprise Justice is beneficial
Experience conducting legal research
At least an intermediate skill level with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams is preferred
The successful candidate will be a highly motivated self-starter who is detail oriented and has strong oral and written communication skills
