The State of Florida's Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is seeking a motivated Fish and Wildlife Technician to assist in managing wildlife populations and habitats. This role involves implementing management activities on Escribano Point Wildlife Management Area to enhance habitats for various species and improve public recreational opportunities.

Responsibilities
Assist the Lead Area Biologist in implementing management activities to manage wildlife populations, improve wildlife habitat, and provide public recreational opportunities on Escribano Point Wildlife Management Area (WMA)
Be a key team member responsible for all aspects of management of the WMA including applications of prescribed fire as well as mechanical and chemical vegetation control to manage habitats utilized by imperiled and locally important species such as the reticulated flatwoods salamander
Assist in the construction and maintenance of public use infrastructure including roads, parking areas, kiosks, picnic facilities, trails, boat ramps, water control structures, fences, gates, and equipment maintenance/storage compound as needed
Assist with the management of public recreational use programs and with wildlife disease surveillance
Operate, maintain and repair area equipment and vehicles including trucks, tractors, ATVs/UTVs, heavy equipment and various implements (disc harrows, mowers, sprayers, etc.) and transport heavy equipment as needed
Assist other wildlife management areas as directed and provide technical assistance to individuals, organizations, and other government agencies regarding wildlife and habitat management
Attend regional and divisional meetings as well as various training courses as needed
Qualification
Required
A high school diploma and 1 year of post-high school experience in wildlife, fisheries, environmental, ecological or related agriculture or construction is required
Vocational training or an associate's degree in wildlife, fisheries, environmental, ecological or related agriculture or construction from an accredited school or college may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check
Must possess and maintain a valid minimum Class E State of Florida driver's license
Must be able to operate ATVs, tractors, heavy equipment, and tools
Must obtain a State of Florida Class A Commercial Driver's License within 270 days of appointment and maintain license thereafter
Occasional overnight travel is required
Preferred
Experience in farm tractor, skid steer, or other heavy equipment operations
Successfully completed basic wildland firefighter training - S-130/190, I-180
Has at least 2 years of direct, applied experience in management of Florida natural communities
Possesses and maintains a Class A CDL License
