Responsibilities

Performs complex problem diagnosis and resolution for staff using the mainframe, LAN’s, PC’s and printers on the Agency’s enterprise system for hardware and software related issues. Researches symptoms and solutions of errors and diagnostics issues
Provides technical support using a variety of automated tools
Responds to requests for information, troubleshoots problems, and directs callers to other designated staff as appropriate
Maintains written and oral communications with vendors, technical support staff, and management using email, internet, telephone, and technical support alert features
Maintains a working knowledge of the latest technical procedures and practices related to systems operation and performance, capacity issues, and telecommunications equipment deployment and maintenance
Documents procedures required to troubleshoot, maintain, repair and backup IT related software and equipment
Documents inventory and disposition of DSS IT property
Participates in training to update and expand their personal knowledge and skills
Assists users in determining hardware and software needs. Provides users with general instructions on hardware use. Provides users with guidance and advice to better utilize their computer system
Provides individual and classroom instructions on the use of personal computers and the County’s computer systems
Sets up, installs, and performs minor repairs of computer hardware, software, peripheral equipment, and printers
Administers user access privileges to all VDSS and County systems, including setting up / requesting user profiles and Agency unit structures within the systems. These systems include ADAPTRO, ANOAS, AGTrak, Compass, COV Learning Center, Data Warehouse, EPPIC EBT, EPPIC ECC, EDRS, Flex Dictate, IBM/SVES, IRMS, Laser, Laserfiche, DSS Check-in System, MIAP, MMIS, OASIS, Rushmore, Safe Measures, SAVE, SPIDeR, VACMS, VEMAT, VNIS, LETS, SAMS, Gmail, Virtru, VEC VRI, VPN, WebEx, and internal shared drives
Reset system passwords and / or unsuspend users from systems
Ensures staff members complete Information Security and Privacy Awareness Training annually and maintain documentation certifying the completion of training disclosures
Ensure employee practices are compliant with PII standards
Responsible for Security Incident Reporting for the Agency
Assists with PC refreshes with the State / vendors
Assists DSS IT Security Supervisor with verifying access privileges for staff annually
Performs other related work as required

Required

Associate's degree in Computer Science preferred, or a related field, and one (1) to two (2) years' personal computer and computer systems experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities
Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia
Knowledge of data processing operations, procedures, and terminology
Ability to detect and correct system failures
Ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information. Includes receiving instructions, assignments and/or directions from supervisors
Ability to read a variety of reports and manuals, correspondence, manuals, codes, guides. Requires the ability to prepare a variety of forms, correspondence, purchase orders, memos, lists, brochures, manuals, etc., using proper format
Ability to apply principles of rational systems to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form
Ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions
Ability to utilize mathematical formulas; to add and subtract totals; to multiply and divide; and to determine percentages and decimals
Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments
Ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under varied levels of stress
Ability to communicate professionally and respectfully
