Entrepreneur-in-Residence (EIR) – Liquid Biopsy Services

They are seeking an experienced Entrepreneur-in-Residence (EIR) to lead the development of a clinical testing service for circulating tumor DNA analysis in liquid biopsies, focusing on building a scalable platform for oncology product development and clinical decision-making.

Responsibilities
Develop: The strategic vision, value proposition, and business model for a ctDNA-based clinical testing service
Lead: Selection, development, and implementation of high-sensitivity clinical testing assays
Drive: Establishment and scaling of CLIA/CAP-compliant clinical testing laboratories
Partner: With regulatory and payer experts to define reimbursement and commercial strategy
Collaborate: Closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure clinical testing services are tightly aligned with Alloy Therapeutics’ broader drug development strategy
Service & Business Development Define priority indications and clinical contexts where ctDNA provides clear decision-making value (e.g., MRD, therapy monitoring, resistance)
Determine optimal platform strategy across assay development, sequencing technologies, and bioinformatics (build, partner, or acquire)
Design commercial models and customer engagement strategies for biopharma, clinical trial, and healthcare delivery settings
Technology & Assay Strategy Select and operationalize ultra-sensitive sequencing and error-correction approaches appropriate for each clinical use case
Establish analytical performance benchmarks and validation frameworks to ensure robust, reproducible results
Drive assay lifecycle management, including optimization, scalability, and turnaround times suitable for prospective clinical use
Guide bioinformatics and variant interpretation approaches for ultra-low allele frequency detection
Clinical & Regulatory Enablement Implement CLIA/CAP laboratory workflows and quality systems to support clinical testing deployment
Define regulatory positioning across LDTs, clinical trial support, companion diagnostics, and future IVD pathways
Partner with reimbursement and health-economics experts to develop evidence strategies supporting payer adoption
Cross-Functional Leadership Align clinical testing priorities with Alloy’s discovery, translational, and clinical development teams
Coordinate external partnerships with academic centers, technology providers, CROs, and clinical sites
Recruit and develop early technical, clinical, and operational team members
Venture Creation & Scale-Up Build operating and financial plans to support growth from initial deployment to scaled clinical service
Support strategic partnerships, fundraising activities, and evaluation of spin-out or standalone company opportunities
Assume increasing leadership responsibility as the platform matures, with potential transition into a senior executive role
Qualification
Required
Former or aspiring founder with domain expertise in liquid biopsy or oncology diagnostics
Experience working with biopharma partners on translational or clinical trial assays
Comfortable operating in ambiguity and building from zero to one
PhD, MD, or equivalent advanced degree in molecular biology, genomics, oncology, pathology, or related field
10+ years of experience in liquid biopsy, ctDNA analysis, clinical genomics, or molecular diagnostics
Deep hands-on or leadership experience with high-sensitivity sequencing technologies for rare variant detection
Strong understanding of clinical assay validation, CLIA/CAP lab operations, and regulatory considerations
Demonstrated entrepreneurial mindset with experience launching new products, platforms, or services
Ability to bridge scientific depth with commercial and strategic thinking
Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage scientific, clinical, and investor audiences
Ability to work across various US and international time zones
Accommodate occasional travel as needed (10%)
