Responsibilities
Ensure safe and reliable operation, maintenance, installation, and modification of substation equipment
Manage existing substations including upgrades, expansions, and replacement of obsolete or failed assets
Develop and execute long-term maintenance and asset management plans (1-, 3-, 5-, 10-, and 15-year outlooks)
Conduct and oversee routine inspections and preventive maintenance on transformers, breakers, relays, and associated systems
Diagnose equipment and system issues and coordinate corrective actions to minimize outages
Monitor substation performance using SCADA systems and prepare maintenance and system health reports
Coordinate substation design activities with engineering teams as the Owner’s Representative
Review engineering drawings, plans, and specifications for compliance with applicable standards
Act as Owner’s Inspector during construction, commissioning, and energization activities
Witness testing of protection, control, and metering systems prior to energization
Ensure compliance with NESC, ANSI, IEEE, RUS, OSHA, and industry safety standards
Maintain and oversee Substation Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) plans
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or equivalent
Minimum 10 years of experience in substation operations, maintenance, construction, or related roles
Strong knowledge of electrical theory and substation practices
Experience with high-voltage systems ranging from 12.47 kV to 115 kV
Solid understanding of protection, metering, and power system dynamics
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, drawings, and technical documentation
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Willingness to travel as required
Preferred
Associate degree in Electrical Technology or related field
