Tax & Wage ES Benefit Technician: Olympia/Telework
The State of Washington's Employment Security Department is seeking detail-oriented and customer-focused professionals to serve as Benefit Technicians within the Account Management Center. This role involves providing direct services to employers regarding Unemployment Insurance tax requirements and ensuring compliance with state law to facilitate timely unemployment benefits.

Responsibilities
Provide authoritative information to employers and authorized representatives regarding UI tax liability, reporting requirements, and account status
Respond to routine inquiries via phone and written correspondence, explaining relevant RCWs, WACs, and Employment Security Act provisions
Assist employers in preparing quarterly tax reports and calculating tax, interest, and penalties
Support employers in preparing or adjusting agency reports and using electronic filing and payment systems
De-escalate complaint calls, resolve UI tax issues within authority, and refer customers appropriately
Provide administrative support to Tax Specialists, Leads, and Supervisors, including processing Power of Attorney forms and updating account information
Perform clerical tasks such as closing collection plans, adding FEINs, and updating addresses from returned mail
Send pre-collection notifications for delinquent taxes and missing tax/wage reports
Review employer accounts and conduct interviews to determine UI tax liability and status
Access and interpret information from NGTS, Department of Revenue, Labor & Industries, Department of Licensing, and Secretary of State databases
Qualification
Required
Two (2) years of a combination of education and relevant experience
Two (2) years' customer service experience
An associate's degree
The ability to take action to learn and grow
The ability to take action to meet the needs of others
Adaptability & Versatility: Ability to perform various tasks as needed
Inquiry Response & Information Dissemination: Ability to handle inquiries and provide information
Communication Skills: Ability to explain reporting requirements and eligibility
Employer Liability Assessment: Skill in assisting with liability determination
Interviewing & Verification: Proficiency in conducting interviews and verifying data
Problem Resolution & Communication: Skill in resolving issues and providing clear communication
Must be able to pass Unemployment Insurance (UI) & Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML) claim and fraud check
