Assistant Engineer (Civil/Construction) (NY HELPS) - VID 208353
The NYS Office of General Services is seeking an Assistant Engineer in the Civil/Construction domain. The role involves assisting in civil engineering duties, preparing design drawings, and coordinating projects under licensed staff supervision.

Responsibilities
Assist in performing civil engineering duties including collecting and analyze data on existing infrastructure, topography, and environmental conditions. Review water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer and other infrastructure systems
Prepare site civil drawings and details, specifications, estimates, and/or studies for design projects under the direction of licensed staff
Prepare and coordinate design drawings and related specifications, construction costs estimates, etc., with the other disciplines
Assist in scheduling assigned projects according to workload, priorities, and design schedules
Assist in the review of reports, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates prepared by design consultants
Assist with the supervision of consultant design work
Develop and maintain project documentation, including records of meetings, correspondence, and progress
Collaborate with senior designers, project managers, and other stakeholders to ensure project goals are met
Assist in review of submittals, respond to contractor Requests for Information, create and/or review Information Bulletins, and provide similar construction administration and observation during the project’s construction
Assist with supervision of junior staff

Qualification
Required
Proof of passing the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE) AND a qualifying bachelor's degree or higher as listed below; OR proof of passing the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE) AND one year of full-time qualifying engineering experience as listed below
Qualifying degrees: Architectural Engineering, Architectural Engineering Technology, Building Engineering, Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering, Construction Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering Management, Construction Engineering Management Technology, Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Power Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Engineering Technology, Environmental Design Engineering, Environmental Resources Engineering, Environmental Systems Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Hydraulics Engineering, Materials Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Engineering Science with a recognized concentration in any of the above listed engineering degrees
Qualifying experience: One year of full-time engineering experience related to construction project supervision of the structural and architectural elements of the building
A bachelor's degree or higher in engineering or engineering technology (listed above)
Current New York State employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service in a position allocated to a Grade 16 or above and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law
Possession and maintenance of a valid Driver's License issued by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicle is required
