Classification and Compensation Consultant
North Carolina State University is seeking a Classification and Compensation Consultant to serve as a strategic partner within the University’s classification and compensation infrastructure. This role involves providing guidance on HR practices and ensuring alignment with university and state policies to create competitive compensation structures.

Responsibilities
Collaborate with campus leaders, administrators, and HR representatives to provide expert guidance on job design, classification, and compensation practices
Offer insight into compensation trends and help develop long-term HR strategies that align with the University’s mission and academic needs
Advise on salary actions, job categories, and titles in accordance with university policies and external benchmarks
Conduct detailed compensation analysis, salary benchmarking, and market research to support decisions on compensation and classification
Prepare comprehensive reports for the University of North Carolina (UNC) System Office, State Human Resources, and NC State leadership, ensuring accurate and timely salary data
Analyze salary adjustments and provide recommendations based on relevant market data
Communicate complex compensation and classification issues clearly, both in writing and verbally, to various audiences, including leadership and campus stakeholders
Serve as a liaison between departments and HR representatives, providing guidance on compliance with policies, regulations, and best practices
Lead discussions on sensitive issues related to classification and compensation, offering tactful, well-informed advice
Lead and manage HR projects, coordinating timelines, tasks, and deliverables while ensuring university-wide alignment
Participate in HR-related initiatives, offering expertise on classification, compensation, and organizational design
Develop and deliver training on HR policies, procedures, and best practices related to compensation and job classification
Qualification
Required
Graduation from a four-year college or university and two years of progressively responsible experience analyzing, interpreting, applying, communicating and promoting HR best practices in the context of organizational goals and objectives; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions
Experience in job analysis, compensation principles, job design, and organizational structure in a higher education setting or environment
Proficient in using Excel for data analysis, reporting, and insights
Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex ideas clearly and build consensus
A solid foundation in HR principles, including job classification and compensation
Experience managing projects and balancing multiple tasks with deadlines
Preferred
Background in organizational development and design
Familiarity with enterprise-based HR Information Management Systems (e.g., PeopleSoft) and Talent Management/Applicant Tracking Systems (e.g., PeopleAdmin, PeopleClick)
