Litigation Attorney

Responsibilities
Provide legal analysis and counsel our business partners on current or potential litigation matters for Exxon Mobil Corporation and for Company affiliates operate as a valued partner to the business lines
Actively lead and manage a nationwide docket of tort, commercial, and/or environmental litigation matters, including responsibility for defining and refining case strategy, legal budgeting and costs, legal analysis, witness identification, legal hold, witness preparation, depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and judicial proceedings (hearings, trials, appeals, etc.). There may be opportunities to collaborate on litigation and provide legal advice in international forums
Provide legal counsel and support, as needed, on contractual matters, indemnity and additional insured issues, incident investigations, and risk management issues
Work collaboratively with outside counsel to ensure proper handling of matters actively participate in directing strategy managing costs and expenses, opportunities to take first or second chair responsibilities for various stages of litigation, as appropriate
Directly handle a significant case load (volume and complexity) in a variety of issues and venues
Review, revise, and finalize documents and pleadings associated with the above matters provide strategy and direction for same ensure consistency across matters
Ensure alignment between litigation objectives and business line objectives monitor external insights and maintain network of industry contacts
Communicate with and advise business clients and law management regarding case status / key milestones prepare concise updates respond to internal and external case reporting needs
Work and coordinate with, and provide and seek advice from other lawyers receive and provide mentoring with the department
Maintain continuous learning mindset and seek to promote innovation through strategies, technologies, or efficiencies
Abide by corporate guidelines and requirements, demonstrating integrity, care, courage, collaboration, and winning mindset
Qualification
Required
Minimum of three (3) years of legal experience, all of which is in litigation
Strong college and law school record (top 1/3 of class preferred)
J.D. from an accredited law school
License to practice law in at least one state (Texas bar membership preferred)
Experience with trials and in managing significant litigation matters
Litigation experience in a law firm, corporation, or agency, including experience in handling and managing significant and complex litigation matters
Knowledge of Civil Procedure and Rules of Evidence
Strong research and analytical skills and ability to exercise sound business judgment and work both independently and as part of an integrated legal team
Strong interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills
Ability to synthesize complex legal principles and distill them to provide pragmatic business advice
Ability to travel domestically and possibly internationally, as needed
Ability to work effectively with a highly diverse global law department
Reputation for high ethical standards and integrity
Experience working with teams and ability to collaborate
Technology skills, including efficient discovery management practices
