Responsibilities

The Fisher House Program is one - 16 suite guest/family comfort lodging facility built at select VA hospitals/medical centers with a primary goal of bringing family members to the Veterans' bedside to facilitate their recovery from illness or injury
He major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: As the Fisher House is a non-clinical setting - the incumbent must be able to assess and independently manage urgent situations with appropriate action - to include interaction with the Emergency Department - Safety Office - Police & Security - Facilities Management - etc
Serves as the purchase order clerk for the submission of VA Form 2237s for the request - turn-in - and receipt for property or services
Updates and maintains all established files and daily logs to include equipment and supplies
Resolves day-to-day problems related to the program and keeps the Fisher House Manager informed of situations that cannot be easily resolved or that may have an impact on guest safety or be beyond the immediate scope of the program
Assists with overseeing regular tour and off-tour events in the house conducted by volunteers
Ensures compliance with standards and practices and monitors the need for appropriate boundaries between guests and volunteers - all of which requires program knowledge - sound independent judgment - along with tact and diplomacy
Conducts safety checks of the automated external defibrillator (AED) as required and report findings through designated VA Memphis channels
Performs work related to the acquisition and/or development of program information and resource materials
Ensures all office correspondence adheres to format accuracy and reflects correct grammar and spelling
Maintains all written records - reports - and publications and establishes administrative controls in an accurate and complete manner and in accordance with established directives

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement
For a GS-7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5
An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials
If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year - it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade - as required by the announcement
In this instance - you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade
Specialized Experience: Do you possess one (1) full year of specialized experience in the Federal service equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-5 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization?
Specialized experience is defined as - but not limited to: Knowledge of the scheduling process and be able to make minor adjustments to printers - scanners - fax machines - and other routinely used office equipment
Skillful with oral communications as well as interpersonal relations
Knowledge and skill in operating within a network of personal computers and other related equipment such as shared multifunction devices and printers
Knowledge of office automation programs such as word processing - PowerPoint - email - calendar management - Human Resources databases - and spreadsheets
Ability to communicate effectively - tactfully - and diplomatically with all stakeholders through personal contact - e-mail and on the telephone
Ability to resolve conflicts based upon a thorough understanding of regulations - policies - and procedures - as well as the intent of each
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience - including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. - Peace Corps - AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g. - professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social)
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience - including volunteer experience
A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week
Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities
Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment
Regular and recurring work is mostly sedentary involving sitting at a desk
The incumbent works with a computer screen and keyboard
Some physical effort such as standing - walking - bending - lifting (up to 40 pounds) or prolonged sitting may be required
Physical exertions including stretching - reaching - and pulling or pushing carts occurs when assisting with inventories or activities involving retrieving items from shelves and cabinets
