Volunteers in Police Service

Responsibilities
Volunteers will perform specific task(s) in a supportive role
VIPS will agree to perform a service that has been discussed prior to the assignment. A VIPS will not be expected to perform in any area in which they have no skills, qualifications, or training
Members of the sheriff’s office who require assistance from the VIPS must contact the VIPS Coordinator by phone, email, or face-to-face before engaging any volunteer in any task. VIPS assignments must be approved by the VIPS Coordinator
Confidentiality: VIPS will be held accountable to the same standards of confidentiality as the members of the sheriff’s office. Anything read or overheard within the assignment of the VIPS and within the sheriff’s office are not to be discussed outside the sheriff’s office or within any other area of the sheriff’s office
VIPS are expected to keep the VIPS Coordinator and their respective area designee or supervisor informed of their available schedule
VIPS are expected to abide by agency GO 2100.02 Appearance
VIPS are expected to abide by agency GO 1000.02 Code of Conduct
VIPS will be considerate of clients, staff, and other VIPS and refrain from offensive or disparaging conduct
The identification badge will be worn at all times while in the sheriff’s office complex. If outside the complex, the identification badge should only be displayed while actively serving as a volunteer for the sheriff’s office
At no time will volunteers conduct themselves in any manner which might suggest that they are law enforcement officers or have any official status with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office
VIPS will adhere to chain-of-command protocols with the VIPS Coordinator being their first line supervisor
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or equivalent
Proficient in Microsoft office products
Speak and understand the English language
Driver's License
Birth Certificate
Social Security Card
Form DD214 for all periods served in the military
GED or High School Diploma and Sealed Transcripts from the highest level of education
FDLE Authority for Release (notarized)
Applicants for membership must be cleared through a background check conducted by the CCSO Internal Affairs Section prior to acceptance into the program
Local record via RMS and law enforcement agencies surrounding CCSO

Driver's License
Volunteers who will be assigned to tasks involving access to sensitive member or law enforcement information must complete the Level 2 Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) training prior to being assigned tasks
