The NYS Department of Environmental Conservation is dedicated to environmental protection and sustainability. They are seeking an Environmental Engineering Technician 1 to provide administrative and technical support to the Bureau of Flood Protection and Dam Safety, including managing financial transactions, assisting with inspections, and maintaining records.

Responsibilities

Preparing, processing, and reviewing State Financial System (SFS) financial transactions and records, including payments for bills, invoices, and vouchers. This also includes travel reimbursements processed through SFS
Maintaining basic financial, accounting, and/or statistical records; updating and/or correcting records
Providing phone support for the BFPDS phone line
Assist with Freedom of Information Act requests assigned to the Bureau
Assist the Floodplain Management Section with various components of the Community Assistance Visits and Community Assistance Calls with staff
Assist with site inspections and projects associated with the Dam Safety, Coastal, Flood Control and Resilient NY sections, as necessary
Managing and distributing incoming and outgoing mail and correspondence for the BFPDS
Arranging meetings and managing schedules/calendars using MS Outlook
Entering, retrieving and verifying accuracy of data within SFS and DOW databases
Answering questions from and providing information to various parties regarding BFPDS programs
Performing records management activities to include reviewing paper files, scanning, copying and identifying records which can be sent to archives
Other duties, as directed and necessary to support general administrative operations within the BFPDS
Have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position

Required

Four years of experience in technician work in aeronautical, chemical, civil, electrical, environmental, mechanical, or sanitary engineering technology; environmental technology; geology or geology technology; or as a surveyor or a drafter
OR graduation from high school and one year of qualifying experience
OR graduation from a high school technical education program in aeronautics, architectural drafting, chemistry, electricity, electronics, mechanical design and construction, technical structural drafting and design, technical instrumentation and control systems, or computer circuitry
OR 18 college semester credit hours in any combination of the following: engineering, geology, environmental science, natural or physical science, drafting, mathematics, or surveying
Must have a valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position
Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain
Must be able to work in remote areas
Travel may be required

Preferred

Must be proficient at multi-tasking several initiatives at one time, including managing schedules and arranging meetings for the BFPDS Director and Section Chiefs, as necessary
Be comfortable working collaboratively as a member of the overall BFPDS team
Must have expertise in MS Office Suite, including MS Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook, and One Note
Must be able to communicate and write clearly and be able to interact with the general public and other interested parties/stakeholders regarding the BFPDS
