Director, Pharmacy Procurement & Strategic Sourcing
Boston Medical Center (BMC) is seeking a Director of Pharmacy Procurement & Strategic Sourcing to provide enterprise leadership in pharmacy procurement across various healthcare settings. This role is responsible for establishing purchasing governance, supplier strategy, and pricing discipline to ensure reliable medication supply and cost optimization.

Responsibilities
Develop and execute a comprehensive pharmacy procurement and sourcing strategy aligned with organizational goals and Pharmacy Supply Chain priorities
Own procurement strategy across all sites and classes of trade, including WAC, GPO, 340B purchasing pathways, and alternate distribution models (ADM)
Establish standardized procurement policies, approval thresholds, escalation pathways, and controls to reduce variability and optimize overall cost of goods
Ensure procurement practices align with contracting strategy, inventory planning, and financial stewardship
Oversee purchasing across all inpatient, outpatient, infusion, retail, and community hospital sites
Partner with inpatient and outpatient pharmacy leaders to ensure procurement workflows support operational needs and patient care continuity
Collaborate with Finance and Information Services to ensure accurate cost accounting, expense classification, and purchasing data integrity
Provide actionable procurement insights to leadership to inform strategic and operational decision-making
Serve as owner of wholesaler, distributor and manufacturer relationships
Lead sourcing strategy for wholesalers, manufacturers, specialty distributors, and alternate distribution partners
Partner closely with Pharmacy Supply Chain leadership to ensure: Correct contract utilization and pricing at wholesalers, Appropriate purchasing pathways, Alignment between sourcing decisions and pricing strategy
Oversee vendor performance management, scorecards, issue resolution, and ongoing relationship management
Lead or support supplier negotiations in coordination with pharmacy leadership, legal and hospital supply chain teams
Uphold industry best practices for pharmaceutical sourcing and procurement
Identify and implement initiatives that improve procurement efficiency, reduce cost variability, and support system-wide optimization
Evaluate sourcing alternatives, distribution models, and vendor capabilities to support cost-effective access to medications
Establish and monitor key procurement performance metrics and use data-driven insights to drive continuous improvement
Collaborate with 340B leadership to ensure procurement strategies appropriately support 340B program objectives and compliance requirements
Ensure purchasing and sourcing decisions align with approved 340B strategies and operational workflows
Provide procurement and sourcing expertise to inform evaluation of third-party administrators (TPAs), ADM partners, and distribution models
Support optimization of 340B-eligible purchasing while maintaining compliance, without owning day-to-day 340B operations
Lead procurement managers and specialists; define clear roles, decision rights, and accountability
Coach and develop early-career leaders and procurement staff
Establish governance structures that reduce escalations to senior executives and clarify ownership
Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
Lead continuous improvement initiatives to standardize and optimize pharmacy procurement processes across all sites and care settings
Drive full and effective utilization of procure-to-pay (P2P) systems, including purchasing, invoicing, and reporting workflows
Partner with Information Services, Finance, and Supply Chain stakeholders to improve data accessibility, integrity, and end-to-end process alignment
Develop and implement best-practice procurement planning models that support demand variability, supplier constraints, and inventory strategies
Establish standardized procurement performance metrics and dashboards to monitor compliance, efficiency, and cost performance
Identify and implement opportunities to automate manual procurement workflows and reduce operational friction
Support the adoption of new tools, technologies, and processes that enhance procurement governance, visibility, and scalability
Promote a culture of continuous improvement and operational discipline within the procurement organization
Qualification
Required
Bachelor of Science from an accredited college or university required
Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in pharmacy supply chain, procurement, or drug contracting and sourcing
Experience managing large, complex pharmacy spend portfolios ($1B or greater)
Proficiency with wholesaler platforms and contracts, GPO contracts and services, purchase planning systems, and contract compliance tools
Experience working in or supporting 340B-eligible pharmacy environments
Strong understanding of wholesaler economics, sourcing models, and pharmacy contracting structures
Advanced financial and analytics skills
Proven leadership and change-management capability
Strong problem-solving and continuous improvement mindset
Ability to manage complexity across multi-site operations
Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills
Preferred
Advanced degree (MS, MBA or PharmD) preferred
340b ACE designation preferred
