Responsibilities
Patient Care: Evaluate patients with respiratory conditions in a skilled nursing facility setting, develop and adjust individualized treatment plans, provide respiratory therapy treatments, administer medications and oxygen therapy, perform diagnostic tests (spirometry, arterial blood gas analysis, pulmonary function testing), monitor patients’ vital signs and response to therapy, and provide emergency care such as CPR and airway management
Equipment Management: Set up, operate, and maintain respiratory therapy equipment (mechanical ventilators, CPAP machines, etc), inspect, test, and clean equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation, troubleshoot and resolve equipment problems, and order repairs as needed
Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to manage patient care, communicate effectively with patients, families, and team members, and educate patients and families on respiratory care techniques and disease management
Documentation & Compliance: Maintain accurate and complete patient records, follow specified treatment parameters, adhere to facility policies and procedures, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and standards of practice
Professional Development: Participate in orientation and continuing education programs, stay updated on the latest developments in respiratory care, and contribute to the professional development of yourself and facility staff
Safety & Quality Assurance: Demonstrate safe working practices, use appropriate protective equipment, participate in quality improvement programs, and identify and correct safety hazards in the work environment
Qualification
Required
Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy
Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
current state license to practice as a Respiratory Therapist
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
Good physical and emotional health
ability to stand for long periods
lift and move patients
willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays
Physical Exam and 2-Step PPD or Chest X-ray
Preferred
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification
Minimum 1-2 years of experience in respiratory care
experience in acute care, intensive care, or long-term care settings being advantageous
