Technician - Construction and Trades - INTERNAL ONLY
Central Bedfordshire College is seeking a Technician in Construction and Trades to join their Construction department. The role involves providing workshop support, maintaining tools and equipment, managing stock control, and supporting students in their learning.
Education Management
Responsibilities
Workshop Support for Plumbing & Construction – Provide hands‑on support to lecturers and trainers in Plumbing workshops, with flexibility to assist across wider Construction areas when needed
Tools, Equipment & Workshop Maintenance – Maintain, service and repair tools and equipment, manage consumables, prepare work areas and ensure workshop spaces remain safe, clean and hazard‑free at all times
Stock Control, Systems & Procurement – Manage secure stores systems, sign‑in/sign‑out processes, annual inventories, purchasing of tools and consumables, and monitor expenditure against budget requirements
Learner Support & Conduct Management – Support students in achieving qualifications, manufacture teaching aids, handle breaches of discipline appropriately and contribute to a positive, safe learning environment
Safety, Compliance & College‑Wide Duties– Carry out risk and COSHH assessments, uphold safeguarding and health & safety responsibilities, support marketing/events, and assist with site security in liaison with the Head of Construction
Qualification
Required
Level 2 NVQ/Diploma in a construction trade
GCSE-level English and maths (or willingness to achieve)
Practical experience working within the construction industry
Strong understanding of safe working practices
Knowledge of a range of construction trades
Ability to prepare, maintain and repair tools, equipment and stock inventories
Ability to contribute to a high-quality learning environment
