Cyber Security, Technology & Engineer Fellow (Summer)
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is a key player in public transportation in New York, and they are seeking a Cyber Security, Technology & Engineer Fellow for the Summer of 2026. The fellow will collaborate with application security experts to enhance cybersecurity initiatives and promote a culture of security awareness across the organization.

Responsibilities
Collaborate with Application Security experts to advance MTA’s cybersecurity program, leveraging the latest tools and technologies (e.g., Cloud Services, Application Security)
Work across technology and cybersecurity domains to ensure a holistic approach to security from user, data, and systems perspectives
Monitor and analyze cyber threats and emerging security trends to proactively reduce cyber risk
Develop educational content tailored to diverse audiences, promoting application security awareness among MTA staff
Perform cybersecurity data analytics and manage dashboards using Power BI
Support cybersecurity initiatives, including culture-building, awareness programs, and training, to ensure organization-wide understanding of cyber risk requirements
Research emerging threats and vulnerabilities and develop security guidelines and best practices to mitigate risks
Conduct and assist with threat modeling, security reviews, and assessments of websites and applications
Monitor and analyze emerging cyber threats and security trends impacting applications
Perform cybersecurity data analytics and manage dashboards using Power BI
Qualification
Required
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is a must
The candidate should possess organizational, analytical and communication skills
The candidate should be able to work well under pressure and prioritize tasks effectively
The candidate should have a keen eye for detail and be able to work independently while being an active team player
Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology or related field
Basic understanding of application security principles, including OWASP (Open Worldwide Application Security Project) Top 10 and secure coding practices
Proficient with web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and programming languages such as Java, Python, or C#
Ability to analyze vulnerabilities and assist in remediation efforts under guidance
Strong interest in threat modeling, vulnerability management, secure software development lifecycle (SDLC), and DevOps
Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and willingness to learn new technologies
Strong communication and collaboration skills to work with developers and security teams
Ability to research emerging threats and security trends and summarize findings effectively

Preferred
Exposure to security testing tools (SAST, DAST, or similar) is a plus
Proficiency in data analysis tools (Excel, Power BI) for reporting and dashboards is desirable
