Electrical Safety Officer
COMPA Industries, Inc. is seeking an experienced Electrical Safety Officer to support Los Alamos National Laboratory in Los Alamos, New Mexico. This role serves as the primary authority for electrical safety and oversees the implementation and administration of the LANL Electrical Safety Program.
Responsibilities
Serve as the primary authority and point of contact for electrical safety at LANL
Administer and maintain the LANL Electrical Safety Program
Provide electrical safety support to construction projects and field activities
Act as a technical resource for employees and management on electrical safety issues
Conduct incident investigations, determine root causes, and develop corrective actions
Perform workplace inspections to identify electrical hazards
Lead reviews of Integrated Work Documents (IWDs) and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures
Contribute to the development of electrical safety codes, standards, and specifications
Support engineers and scientists in solving complex electrical safety and engineering problems
Evaluate controlled items and services for compliance with electrical safety requirements
Perform calculations to determine electrical severity scores for incidents
Develop and maintain written electrical safety policies, procedures, and design standards
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, or related discipline
Minimum 7 years of field experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Advanced knowledge of electrical safety standards, including: NFPA (specifically NFPA 70E), IEEE, OSHA
Experience with electrical engineering and electrical safety across: Low-voltage AC systems, Low-voltage DC systems
Strong experience supporting construction, maintenance, and operational environments
Proficiency with personal computer systems and software, including Microsoft Office
Ability to perform electrical safety calculations and risk/severity assessments
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly
Strong organizational, collaboration, and leadership skills
Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” security clearance
Ability to successfully complete Radiological Worker II (Rad Worker II) training
Ability to work onsite in industrial, laboratory, and construction environments
Preferred
Prior experience working at DOE or NNSA facilities
Experience supporting large-scale construction or national laboratory environments
Previous involvement in development or oversight of site-wide electrical safety programs
