Director of Technology
Interactive Resources - iR is a well-known, mission-driven organization based in Los Angeles seeking a Director of Technology to own and evolve its entire technology environment. The role involves setting strategic direction, making architectural decisions, and executing hands-on IT management to modernize systems and improve security.
Responsibilities
Own, operate, and continuously improve the organization’s full technology ecosystem, including infrastructure, networks, cloud platforms, applications, telecommunications, digital displays, and end-user systems
Develop and execute a practical, right-sized technology roadmap aligned with organizational priorities, budget, and operational realities
Remain hands-on with system configuration, troubleshooting, integrations, upgrades, and issue resolution
Lead cybersecurity strategy, policies, and incident response; ensure compliance with applicable standards (e.g., PCI-aligned environments)
Plan and deliver initiatives such as cloud migrations, platform replacements, system integrations, and process improvements
Build, mentor, and manage a small, service-oriented technology team; directly oversee workload prioritization and future hiring
Manage technology budgets, procurement, and vendor relationships with a focus on reliability, security, and cost effectiveness
Partner closely with leadership and staff to translate business needs into scalable, maintainable technical solutions
Qualification
Required
8–12 years of progressive IT experience, including leadership responsibility in small to mid-sized organizations
Strong hands-on background across infrastructure, networking, cloud services, cybersecurity, and business applications
Proven experience operating as a player-coach, balancing leadership with direct technical contribution
Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and support systems without reliance on large enterprise teams or heavy outsourcing
Experience managing vendors, contracts, and technology budgets in resource-conscious environments
Strong problem-solving skills and comfort working in evolving, ambiguous environments
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field—or equivalent hands-on experience
Demonstrated success owning end-to-end IT environments outside of large enterprise settings
Track record of building, mentoring, and scaling small technical teams
Strong communicator able to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders
Broad technical depth across infrastructure, networking, cloud platforms, cybersecurity, telephony, and applications
Preferred
Experience in nonprofit, arts, education, entertainment, or other mission-driven organizations
Exposure to ERP, CRM, ticketing, fundraising, or similar operational platforms and integrations
Familiarity with ITSM concepts and pragmatic (lightweight) project management approaches
Working knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks and risk management appropriate for smaller organizations
Relevant certifications (Security+, Network+, ITSM, PMP, CCNA, or similar) are a plus but not required
