Responsibilities
Develop, revise, and publish transmission engineering standards, including:
Engineering philosophy
Design criteria
Decision trees
Legal and compliance considerations
Update outdated or incorrect transmission standards to reflect current field practices and technologies
Collaborate with 10–15 internal stakeholders, including transmission engineers, planners, and related technical teams
Socialize standards changes prior to publication to gain alignment and buy-in
Provide guidance on standards language, publishing approach, and adoption strategy
Revise design drawings and construction standards, including:
Riser transmission pothead structures
Pullhead configurations aligned with ~90% of real-world builds
Lightning arrester and pothead selection standards
Create kit-style Bills of Materials (BOMs) to support accurate and efficient field ordering
Incorporate modern materials and technologies, such as high-temperature, low-SAC conductors and associated hardware
Support technology transfer and training related to updated standards
Ensure clarity and usability of standards for engineering, planning, and field teams
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline (required)
5+ years of experience (typical range: 5–7 years) in transmission engineering
Strong understanding of: Transmission line design, Electrical circuit concepts, Transmission structures, conductors, and hardware
Proven ability to: Interpret and develop engineering standards, Collaborate and influence across technical teams, Communicate complex technical concepts clearly
Preferred
Direct experience working with utility transmission standards
Exposure to substation and/or distribution standards (in addition to transmission)
Experience updating or authoring engineering standards or construction manuals
Familiarity with field construction practices and design-for-build considerations
