Responsibilities

Work will include the collection of water quality data using field meters; collection of water samples; collection of benthic macroinvertebrate samples; collection of fish using seines and backpack, pram and boat electrofishing gear; collection of stream habitat data
The successful applicant may also assist with equipment maintenance, sample delivery, data review, and data entry
Conduct routine environmental health surveys and inspections, and prepare reports of findings, and perform follow-up investigations
Assist the public with filling out appropriate forms, and provide technical and routine clerical assistance to Public Health Specialist, Environmental Programs Specialists, and/or Investigators

Required

Applicant must submit Resume, Cover Letter, and college transcript
Knowledge of the principles and practices of environmental sanitation
Knowledge of general natural resource principles
Knowledge of basic chemical and biological testing
Knowledge of community environmental problems
Knowledge of state and federal sanitation laws
Ability to keep records
Ability to write reports
Ability to establish effective working relationships with others
Ability to recognize sanitation violations
Ability to perform non-complex laboratory procedures
Applicant must be willing to work in the field and office
Applicant must be able to listen and follow instructions
Work often requires strenuous physical work in extreme weather conditions
Applicant must be willing and able to lift and carry 50 lbs. of equipment for extended distances
Applicant must be able to swim and work safely with others alone or with others
Overnight travel may be necessary

Preferred

24 hours towards the completion of a major or minor in the biological or environmental sciences
No Experience Required But Is Preferred

Benefits

Expenses (hotel) and per diem will be paid for overnight trips.
