Office Specialist
The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services is seeking an Office Specialist within the Medicaid Claims Screening and Scanning Team. The role involves reviewing documentation, updating client eligibility status, and collaborating with the Office Manager to ensure proper processing of claims.

Responsibilities
Review documentation to ensure proper coding and completion of related claim forms, check recipient eligibility requirements and dates, and verify compliance with established policies and procedures in claim handling and client SOC process
Update client eligibility status in the Medicaid System
Collaborate with Office Manager to ensure the screening and preparation of paper claims and other documents for scanning and processing in the OnBase system
Cross-train to assist the Medicaid Claims Customer Service Call Center with responding to provider queries, as needed
Serve as a backup for the Scanning Desk by receiving, processing, scanning, and indexing various documents, including Medicaid NFOCUS billing documents, Medical/Dental forms, TPL/COB documentation, and authorizations for providers
Conduct quality control checks on documents to be scanned in OnBase, ensuring clarity, proper rotation, and accurate indexing
Qualification
Required
Coursework/training in administrative/office support functions, procedures, and methods including the operation of personal computers and office equipment; or areas related to the programs and functions of the employing agency
Experience in customer service or public contact; or applying criteria/regulations; and/or performing administrative/office/secretarial support work including use of personal computers and office equipment
Preferred
Knowledge of Medicaid eligibility and claims processes
Experience with OnBase/NFOCUS is a plus
At least one year of office/administrative or customer service experience
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of clerical tasks like recordkeeping, database management, and report preparation
Familiar with customer service practices and workplace policies and procedures
Strong grammar, spelling, and business writing skills
Ability to use word processing and data software effectively
Clear, professional communication—both written and verbal
Ability to summarize technical data into easy-to-understand reports and ensure document accuracy
Ability to follow instructions, apply policies, and complete tasks efficiently
Ability to learn about the organization's structure and apply relevant policies to their work
