Tax Accountant

Alaska Airlines is creating an airline people love, and they are seeking a Tax Accountant to join their Tax team. The Tax Accountant will be responsible for maintaining state direct tax records and preparing assigned tax returns and related reports, supporting income tax reporting activities for Alaska Air Group.

Responsibilities

Participate in the detailed maintenance and preparation of direct taxes for the holding company and its subsidiaries. This may include:
Preparation of state quarterly FIN 18 and annual ASC 740 calculations
Maintenance of the tax fixed assets system (BNA Fixed Assets), including report production
Maintenance of the income tax software system (OneSource Express RS)
VEBA tax return preparation
Contributes to the team with detailed research and analysis. Examples include:
Analyze changes to the state income tax laws to determine the impact to the company
Assist subsidiary personnel with tax questions and problems
Assist with appeals, audits and litigation
Keeps abreast of current tax laws, regulations and practices
Ensures accounting practices are in compliance with company policies
Contributes to special tax projects, economic analysis or other projects
Participates in creating tax forecasts and projections, monthly journal entries, and account reconciliations
Provides tax and accounting support for Alaska Airlines Foundation
Prepares and reviews tax controversies, ensuring timely responses are provided for information requests

Required

A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, including knowledge of state corporate income tax laws and regulations
1 year of direct tax experience in public accounting
Experience in corporate tax return workpaper and form preparation
A Bachelor's degree in accounting or related discipline, or 2 additional years' experience in related area in lieu of degree
Detail oriented, self-motivated, organized and able to work efficiently and accurately under pressure to meet deadlines
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel (including pivot tables and v-lookups) and PowerPoint
High school diploma or equivalent
Minimum age of 18
Must be authorized to work in the U.S

Preferred

1-2 years of state income tax return preparation and federal income tax and provision experience
Public accounting experience
A CPA, or progress toward a CPA
