Responsibilities

Design and Implementation:
Design, deploy, and maintain VMware ESXi hosts, vCenter Server, and virtual machines across multiple sites
Collaborate with IT teams to design and implement integrated infrastructure solutions that align with command requirements
Implement and manage VMware networking components, including distributed switches and VLANs
Schedule, plan, and perform system upgrades, coordinating the transition from test to production environments
System Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
Monitor and optimize virtual infrastructure performance, resource utilization, and system availability
Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues related to VMware technologies, including performance bottlenecks and connectivity problems, to ensure minimal downtime
Collaborate with vendors and third-party providers for advanced troubleshooting and issue resolution
Provide technical support for system users
Security and Recovery:
Implement and manage comprehensive backup and disaster recovery solutions for virtual machines and infrastructure components
Ensure the virtual environment is compliant with DoD security policies, regulations, and best practices by implementing and maintaining STIGs
Support projects aimed at enhancing the security, efficiency, or capability of the virtualized environment
Documentation and Mentorship:
Develop and maintain clear, detailed documentation for virtualization architecture, configurations, and procedures
Evaluate and recommend new VMware technologies and solutions to enhance system performance and efficiency
Mentor junior administrators to enhance the team's overall expertise in virtualization technologies

Required

Minimum of 8 years with BS/BA; Minimum of 6 years with MS/MA; Minimum of 3 years with PhD. 12 years of experience in lieu of degree
Active DoD Secret Clearance
Proven experience as a Virtualization Administrator, with a strong focus on VMware technologies
In-depth knowledge of VMware ESXi, vCenter Server, distributed switches, and related components
Demonstrated ability in performance monitoring, resource optimization, and troubleshooting within a virtual environment
Experience with backup and disaster recovery solutions for virtualized systems
Familiarity with DoD security requirements, including the implementation of STIGs
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively with other IT teams
Excellent communication and documentation skills

Preferred

Experience mentoring or providing guidance to junior team members is a plus
