Responsibilities

Ensuring Department of Defense (DoD) facilities are resilient and safe from threats from explosive blasts
Applying specialized engineering principles, standards, and advanced tech in designing and renovating structures
Mitigating risks posed by accidental detonations, intentional attacks, and other high-energy blast scenarios
Ensuring safety, structural resilience, and continuity of critical operations

Required

Master's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Civil Engineering, being a licensed Structural Engineer (SE) is not required but is deemed preferable
Minimum of 10 years of experience in the design and analysis of structures to resist the effects of accidental explosions, using UFC 3-340-02. This should be demonstrated via specific projects reviewed by the Naval Facilities Engineering & Expeditionary Warfare Center and the U.S. Army Engineering & Support Center then DDESB for final approval
Five years of experience in analyzing structural response of buildings and windows under blast loading. Applicable experience may include but is not limited to: single-degree-of-freedom analysis, advanced finite element analysis, and development of fast-running models
Five years of experience using applicable structural software tools. These software tools can include, but are not limited to, SBEDS, SBEDS-W, Wingard, BlastX, SHOCK, FRANG, ConfinedBlast, ConWep, or other equivalent software codes
Secret level security clearance
Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate, and timely communication, both verbally and written
Ability to interact professionally with coworkers, management, and customers
Requires ability to travel domestically (within the U.S.) <10%
Requires sitting for extended periods of time at a workstation / desk
Ability to lift >15 lbs
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgement
Work attire must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk / hazard to the employee or others
