Senior Accountant
Benedictine is an organization that supports individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Senior Accountant verifies financial records, assists with audits, prepares financial statements, and develops documentation for regulatory and financial reporting.

Responsibilities
Consistently report to work on time as scheduled, prepared to perform assigned duties and responsibilities throughout the entire scheduled work period/shift
Ensure the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, consolidating, and entering transactions
Cross-train with Finance team members—including but not limited to the Payroll Coordinator and Accountant—and be prepared to provide backup support as needed
Assist the Payroll Coordinator with payroll-related Statement of Activities and Balance Sheet reconciliations
Calculate and prepare general ledger journal entries using Sage 100 software to record allocations for benefits and other programmatic expenses
Develop assigned schedules for annual audits and regulatory reporting; assist with audit documentation reviews
Prepare monthly Foundation bill-back invoices, organizational financial statements, and other reports as requested
Assist with Maryland Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) billing, reconciliations, and reporting
Update the departmental procedural manual for all assigned areas of responsibility
Assist the Finance Department in establishing and maintaining internal controls, including documentation of procedures, and implement process improvements to enhance departmental workflow
Analyze and complete monthly reconciliations to ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial data and cash receipts, including
Revenue and cash receipts provided by DDA through LTSS, Therap, and Sage 100 systems
School education and residential revenue
Donor gifts, grants, pledges, and restricted/unrestricted contributions using Raiser’s Edge and Sage 100, as well as approved budget funding requests
Assist with periodic filing, file audits, and file purging
Continuously build knowledge and skills relevant to the role
Attend and successfully complete all mandatory trainings and maintain job-specific certifications and licenses
Cooperate with Benedictine administration and in-state/out-of-state agencies during any inspection or investigation
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred. A total of two years of academic and/or professional training is required, which may include a two-year degree or a combination of relevant accounting experience and accounting certificate(s) or training(s)
Minimum of 3 years of hands-on accounting or finance experience required; audit experience preferred, and non-profit experience is a plus
Must have knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Familiarity with accounting best practices, laws, standards, and applicable state/national regulations is a plus
Experience with computerized general ledger software (e.g., Sage 100) required; experience with Sage 100, HRMS, and Thomson Reuters Fixed Asset software is a plus
Must be proficient with PCs; intermediate skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.) required
Must demonstrate attention to detail, strong organizational skills, accuracy, and thoroughness
Must be able to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner; gather and analyze information effectively; and develop alternative solutions
Must be self-accountable, able to effectively multitask, perform well under pressure, and meet deadlines
Must have strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
Must respond promptly to customer needs, fulfill requests for service and assistance, and meet commitments
Must demonstrate integrity and the highest ethical standards in all interactions; conduct oneself in a manner that inspires trust
Must take a hands-on approach to problem-solving when necessary and be able to resolve issues involving accounting and financial matters
Must be at least 21 years old
Must be able to provide proof of eligibility to work in the U.S. upon offer of employment
Must pass a pre-employment drug screening
Must pass pre-employment criminal background checks through CJIS, as stated in Family Law Article 5-561, and a pre-employment CPS check
Must be a strong advocate of the Benedictine mission to support children and adults living with intellectual and developmental disabilities in achieving their greatest potential and be motivated to contribute to that mission with pride and integrity
Must be able to lift or push up to 10 lbs
Must be able to see clearly, with the ability to adjust focus
Must have full range of motion in arms, hands, and fingers
Must be physically able to sit for extended periods
Must be able to speak and hear clearly
Preferred
Audit experience preferred, and non-profit experience is a plus
