Responsibilities
Collaborate with project teams to understand electrical design requirements and objectives
Develop detailed electrical designs, including: System layouts, Single-line diagrams, Elementary diagrams, Wiring diagrams
Perform detail design for DC electrical systems, including: Battery systems, Battery chargers, Inverters, UPS systems, DC fuse panels
Utilize CAD software (AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, CAD Overlay; Revit or SolidWorks Electrical a plus) to create and modify drawings
Maintain organized documentation including drawings, specifications, and Bills of Materials (BOMs)
Ensure designs comply with industry standards, electrical codes, and regulatory requirements (NEC, IEEE, etc.)
Conduct design reviews, quality checks, and updates to ensure accuracy and completeness
Support inspections, acceptance testing, and system checkout activities
Address design issues and provide effective technical solutions
Coordinate with engineers, architects, vendors, and plant staff to integrate electrical systems into overall project designs
Prepare technical reports and documentation for project deliverables
Support field activities, meetings, and inspections as required
Work both independently and as part of a project team
Qualification
Required
Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Design, or related field
5–7 years of experience as an Electrical Designer or similar role
Experience with DC electrical system design, including: Battery systems, Chargers, Inverters, UPS, DC fuse panels
7+ years of experience with: AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, CAD Overlay
Ability to prepare single-line, elementary, and wiring diagrams with minimal supervision
Strong knowledge of electrical design principles and practices
Familiarity with electrical codes and standards (NEC, IEEE)
High attention to detail and commitment to design quality
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to build effective working relationships with plant staff, engineers, and vendors
Preferred
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
Experience designing electrical systems for: Power plants, Industrial facilities, Utility infrastructure
Exposure to PLC programming or control systems
Prior experience supporting Southern Company or utility environments
