Responsibilities
Manage workers' compensation cases from intake through resolution (settlement, hearing, appeal)
Draft pleadings, motions, hearing briefs, discovery, and related legal documents
Appear and advocate in hearings before the Illinois Workers' Compensation Commission, conduct depositions, manage witnesses and evidence
Evaluate and investigate third‑party claims arising from work injuries (where applicable)
Communicate directly with clients, medical providers, adjusters, and opposing counsel
Develop case strategy and timelines, track deadlines, ensure compliance with procedural rules
Mentor more junior attorneys / paralegals; contribute to firm knowledge (e.g. updates on legal developments, legislative changes)
Assist with case intake, evaluation, and maintaining firm standards of client care
Qualification
Required
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and licensed to practice in Illinois
Minimum 3 years' experience of litigation, specifically in workers' compensation claims
Strong courtroom and negotiation skills
Ability to manage a caseload with autonomy while collaborating with colleagues
Preferred
Experience appearing before the Illinois Workers' Compensation Commission
Familiarity with medical terminology, injury evaluation, and vocational rehabilitation related to work injuries
Comfortable negotiating with insurance carriers / defense counsel, and with taking cases to hearing when needed
Ability to handle a mix of straightforward and complex cases
